Respect for
human rights
and supply chain
management

In partnership with suppliers, Meiwa Corporation strives to build a sustainable supply chain that reflects the spirit of harmonious coexistence and the pursuit of mutual coprosperity, with respect for human rights positioned as the cornerstone of all activities.

Human Rights Policy

Meiwa Corporation pursues its business activities under the Meiko Washin (“Always Bright and Friendly”) corporate philosophy. This philosophy reflects our conviction that people are fundamental to effective corporate management and our recognition of the significance of harmonious relationships and respect for individuality.
Today, in an increasingly complex environment characterized by expanding business domains and intersecting diverse cultures and values, we see respect for human rights as an essential part of the sustainable pursuit of business activities.
This Policy is intended to help fulfill our responsibility to proceed with the utmost respect for the human rights of all persons affected by our business activities.

1. Scope

This Policy applies to all officers and employees of Meiwa Corporation.
We share this Policy with Group companies and require each Group company to take action in accordance with this Policy to safeguard human rights.
We also expect all our business partners, including our suppliers, to understand this Policy and to take appropriate action to safeguard human rights.

2. Support and respect for international norms

In addition to full compliance with all laws and regulations that apply in the countries and regions in which we do business, we support international norms concerning human rights, which include the International Bill of Human Rights, the International Labour Organization (ILO) Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, and the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. In the event of conflicts or inconsistencies between such international human rights standards and related laws and regulations in effect in the countries and regions in which we do business, we will seek to comply with internationally recognized human rights standards.

3. Human rights issues related to Meiwa Group business activities

We shall strive to find solutions to the following issues, which we recognize as major human rights issues concerning stakeholders involved in the Group’s direct business activities and value chain.

  1. Prohibition against discrimination

We categorically prohibit discrimination on the grounds of race, ethnicity, creed, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, nationality, age, origin, physical or mental disability, and illness.

  2. Prohibition against inhumane treatment

We prohibit all forms of inhumane treatment, including physical and mental abuse and any actions constituting harassment.

  3. Provision of safe, clean, healthy working environments

We provide employees with safe, clean, and healthy working environments.

  4. Freedom of association and respect for collective bargaining rights

We acknowledge the right of employees to organize and engage in collective bargaining on various labor-management issues, including wages and working environments.

  5. Prohibition against forced labor

We employ all employees of their own free will and categorically reject the practice of forced labor. We also refrain from the employment of children of less than the minimum age of employment and from labor practices that pose the potential of impeding child growth and development.

  6. Environmental considerations

Based on the recognition that environmental degradation can affect human rights, we consider the environment in all our business activities through means such as addressing climate change and supporting the conservation and restoration of our shared natural capital, including biodiversity.

  7. Diversity, equity, and inclusion

We strive to realize a society in which all individuals, with their diverse values and unique personalities, are respected and can thrive on an equal footing.

4. Human rights due diligence

We strive to build a framework for human rights due diligence to effectively identify, prevent, and mitigate any adverse effects—including potentially adverse effects—on human rights in connection with our business activities.

5. Relief and rectification

We strive to provide relief for and to rectify, through appropriate means, any identified cases of negative impacts on human rights caused or promoted by Group business activities.

6. Education and awareness

We engage in education and skills development activities for Group officers and employees to ensure that this Policy is incorporated into our business activities and is executed effectively.

7. Governance and management structures

Our human rights initiatives are overseen by the officer in charge of corporate management and submitted and reported to the Board of Directors following deliberations by the Sustainability Committee.
