History of Meiwa Corporation

Meiwa Corporation was established in July 1947 by former employees of the chemical engineering division of the original Mitsubishi Corporation following its dissolution following World War II. Since then, the Company has expanded its business domains in collaboration with enterprises in wide-ranging fields and members of the Mitsubishi Group. In recent years, the Company has expanded its business, focusing especially on China.

    July

    Meiwa Corporation established (in Nihonbashi Gofukubashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo)
    Founded by 49 former employees of the original Mitsubishi Corporation head office, chemical engineering division, and operations departments in the Osaka, Nagoya, and Yahata branches
    Established branches in Osaka, Nagoya, and Yahata
  • 1957

    March

    Reached annual sales of 10 billion yen

    April

    Participated in the first China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair)
  • 1959

    July

    Merged with Sansho Co., Ltd.
    Expanded business domains through a merger with Sansho, which had been established mainly by former Mitsubishi employees in the lumber department
  • 1962

    September

    Designated as a "friendly trading company" by China
  • 1964

    April

    Acquired stock in Kumi Syokai Co., Ltd. (now Kumi Kasei Co., Ltd.)
  • 1965

    March

    Reached annual sales of 50 billion yen

    May

    Moved the head office to the current location
  • 1969

    September

    Participated in the establishment of Chiba Glasron Co., Ltd. (now Tokyo Glasron Co., Ltd.)

    April

    Meiwa Corporation labor union formed

    Inaugurated the headquarters system

    Acquired stock in Juzen Corporation

    Reached annual sales of 100 billion yen

    Listed on the Second Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange

    Established Soken Co., Ltd.

    Acquired stock in Suzuhiro Chemical Co., Ltd.

    Participated in the establishment of Tianjin Nisseki Lubricants & Grease Co., Ltd.

    Participated in the establishment of Nippon Oil (Guangzhou) Lubricants Corporation
    Established through a merger with Nippon Oil Corporation as a production base for lubricating oil in the South China region

    Participated in the establishment of Qingdao Lingda Kasei Co., Ltd., through a merger with Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation and Qingdao GR-Taida Carbon Co., Ltd., to manufacture spheroidized graphite, which is a chief ingredient in the anode material for lithium ion secondary cells
