History

History of Meiwa Corporation

Meiwa Corporation was established in July 1947 by former employees of the chemical engineering division of the original Mitsubishi Corporation following its dissolution following World War II. Since then, the Company has expanded its business domains in collaboration with enterprises in wide-ranging fields and members of the Mitsubishi Group. In recent years, the Company has expanded its business, focusing especially on China.

1947 July Meiwa Corporation established (in Nihonbashi Gofukubashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo)
Founded by 49 former employees of the original Mitsubishi Corporation head office, chemical engineering division, and operations departments in the Osaka, Nagoya, and Yahata branches
Established branches in Osaka, Nagoya, and Yahata
1957 March Reached annual sales of 10 billion yen
April Participated in the first China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair)
1959 July Merged with Sansho Co., Ltd.
Expanded business domains through a merger with Sansho, which had been established mainly by former Mitsubishi employees in the lumber department
1962 September Designated as a "friendly trading company" by China
1964 April Established Meiwa Sales
Acquired stock in Kumi Syokai Co., Ltd. (now Kumi Kasei Co., Ltd.)
1965 March Reached annual sales of 50 billion yen
May Moved the head office to the current location
1969 September Participated in the establishment of Chiba Glasron Co., Ltd. (now Tokyo Glasron Co., Ltd.)
1971 April Meiwa Corporation labor union formed
October Inaugurated the headquarters system
1972 May Acquired stock in Juzen Corporation
1973 March Reached annual sales of 100 billion yen
April Listed on the Second Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange
1974 August Participated in the establishment of P.T. Pakarti Riken Indonesia
1975 September Raised to the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange
1980 August Established Soken Co., Ltd.
December Established a representative office in Beijing, China
1981 November Acquired stock in Suzuhiro Chemical Co., Ltd.
1995 September Participated in the establishment of Tianjin Nisseki Lubricants & Grease Co., Ltd.
1996 September Established Meiwa (Shanghai) Corporation
1999 June Participated in the establishment of Guangdong Huachuang Petro-chemical Storage & Transportation Co., Ltd.
2002 May Acquired ISO 14001 (international environmental standard) certification)
2005 May Participated in the establishment of Nippon Oil (Guangzhou) Lubricants Corporation
Established through a merger with Nippon Oil Corporation (now JX Nippon Oil & Energy Corporation) as a production base for lubricating oil in the South China region
2010 May Participated in the establishment of Qingdao Lingda Kasei Co., Ltd., through a merger with Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation and Qingdao GR-Taida Carbon Co., Ltd., to manufacture spheroidized graphite, which is a chief ingredient in the anode material for lithium ion secondary cells
2012 May Established Meiwa Vietnam Co., Ltd.
2014 October Established a representative office in Seoul, Korea
2015 March Established Meiwa (Thailand) Co., Ltd.
April Established Thai Meiwa Trading Co., Ltd.
Established PT. Meiwa Trading Indonesia
2017 April Launched new medium-term management plan (fiscal 2017-2019). We aim to continually create new businesses and achieve sustained development with our partners.
